The 2008 California Coastal Rose Show Committee would
like to thank everyone who contributed many hours of hard
work to make this show possible and to the exhibitors for
their exquisite blooms and arrangements.
The CALIFORNIA COASTAL ROSE SOCIETY meetings
are held monthly at Heritage Hall, 2650 Garfield, Carlsbad,
CA on the third Tuesday of each month, at 6:15 and 7:00
pm. No meetings are held in July, August and December.
Each meeting features a program on a subject related to the
rose, presented by a recognized authority. Annual membership
is $20.00 and you will receive our monthly email
newsletter. For more information visit our website,

D i v i s i o n I S h o w R u l e s
1. Entries will be received from 6:30 am until 9:30 am, Saturday,
May 3, 2008. No entries taken after 9:30 am.
2. Judging will be in accordance with current
Guidelines for
Judging Roses.
The judges decisions are final.
3. Specimen roses must have been grown in the exhibitor’s outdoor,
private garden.
4. Horticulture Judges and members of their families may not enter
specimens, with the exception of Section L, Judges Entries.
5. Classification of roses will be in accordance with the latest edition
of
Modern Roses Official List of Approved Exhibition Names
for Judges, Exhibitors Handbook for Selecting Roses, Combined
Rose List,
or the New Rose Registration in the American Rose.
All roses must be exhibited under the ARS Exhibition names as
listed in bold type in the
ARS Handbook for Selecting Roses.
ARS publications take priority over
Combined Rose List.
6. This is an alphabetically arranged show with each variety constituting
a separate class.
7. Exhibitors may make only one entry of the variety in a section.
DUPLICATE ENTRIES WILL DISQUALIFY BOTH.
8. Only Large-flowered Climbers (LCl), Hybrid Wichurana
(HWich) and Hybrid Giganteas (HGig) are to be exhibited in
Class 14. All other climbers must be exhibited in the same class
as their bush counterparts (HT, F, Min, T, etc.)
9. Each exhibitor must be registered and use an official ARS entry
tag. Only ARS entry tags may be used. Complete ONLY the
upper half of the tag including name and address. Use blue or
black pen. (No felt tips please.) No exhibitor numbers needed.
10. Wedging may be used. If wedging material protrudes above the
lip of the vase, the specimen will be penalized. Wedging must
allow the addition of water to the exhibit.
11. ARS rules governing disqualification will be strictly adhered to
including misnamed, misplaced, misclassed, mislabeled or unlabeled,
stem-on-stem (except old garden roses and shrubs), side
buds, presence of a foreign substance, entries in violation of ARS
or show rules, or without an approved exhibition name.
12. The placement committee will place all roses except for challenge
classes. No unauthorized people in the show area.
13. All exhibits become property of CCRS.
14. Trophies will be awarded at 2:00 pm on Saturday, May 3, 2008.
Winners should be present to accept awards. Exhibitors wishing
to have ribbons must pick them up on May 3, 2008. RIBBONS
WILL NOT BE MAILED.
15. Section K, Classes 49 through 53 are open only to members of
CCRS.
16. Any exhibit with more than one stem must be arranged by the
exhibitor. ALL EXHIBITS MUST REPRESENT ONLY THE
EXHIBITOR’S WORK.

- Three blooms or
sprays to include one Hybrid Tea, one Floribunda and
one Heritage Rose, any form, in one container provided
by society. Award: Keeper Trophy
Class 56 Grand Canyon Suite
- Five HTs and/or GRs, each a
different variety, displayed in one container. To be
selected from color classes yellow, red, orange or blends
of same and orange-pink, Gemini may be included, to
highlight colors of the Southwest. Judged 70 percent
form and 30 percent blend of colors. Sponsored by Alan
and Geri McCarron. Award: $50.00
Class 57 Tin Can
- All of your roses that did not make it to the
other classes arranged in a disposable non returnable
container, i.e. milk carton, coffee can, etc. Roses will be
donated to a local Hospice Center after the show. Thank
you for your participation! Award: Keeper Trophy

1. Entries accepted from 6:30 am to 9:30 am. Any arranger in the
exhibiting room after last call before judging will be disqualified.
2. Exhibitors must register. Arrangements must be set up & placed by
the exhibitor only. Entries must remain until the close of the show.
3. Exhibitor is limited to one entry per class. Each entry must be the
exhibitor’s own work & not have been displayed in another show.
4. Members of the same household may enter each class as long as
they individually create each arrangement.
5. All roses must be outdoor grown, of high quality and be the dominant
flower. Roses should be correctly named and listed on the
entry tags. The ARS Medal Certificates will only be awarded to
arranger grown entries, therefore, all entries with arranger grown
roses must be identified as such by placing ‘AG’ on the upper right
corner of the entry tag
6. Unless otherwise stated, accessories are allowed. Bases will be
considered part of the arrangement. Accessories and flowers other
than roses and dried and/or treated dried plant material are allowed
unless prohibited by the schedule. The arrangements will be placed
on long, open tables. Arrangements may not be moved by anyone
except the arranger or the chairman of arrangements.
7. All miniature arrangements must use roses classified by ARS as
miniature or mini-flora.
8. Trophies will awarded to the purple ribbon winner of each class and
must have a score of 90 or better. ARS Medal Certificates will only
be awarded to the best entries to achieve a score of 92 or greater.
9. California Coastal Rose Society will not be held responsible for
exhibits. We strongly encourage arrangers to place their name on all
accessories not noticeable to the judges. The arranger shall pick up
or arrange to have their entries picked up at the end of the show.
10. Trophies will be awarded at 2:00 pm on Saturday, May 3, 2008.
Arrangers should be present or make arrangements for someone to
pick up their trophies. California Coastal Rose Society cannot be
held responsible for unclaimed trophies or arrangements.
11. The Arrangement Division shall be judged according to the rules
and procedures outlined in the ARS Guideline for Judging Rose
Arrangements. The decisions of the judges are final.
12. Care should be exercised when preparing arrangements in the show
area. ALLWATER AND TRASH AROUND YOUR AREAMUST
BE CLEANED UP OR DISQUALIFICATION COULD OCCUR.
13. ARS causes for disqualification of an arrangement are:
A) Roses are not outdoor grown
B) Use of artificial plant material.
14. Penalty: 1. Painted or dyed fresh plant material or use of live creatures
are not allowed. 2. Use of plant material on state conservation
list not permitted 3. Use of any country flags are not
permitted.
